The Adjusting of Our Attitudes in Adversity - Part One

All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast. - Proverbs 15:15 (KJV)

Do you find yourself adrift in the aftermath of awful and agonizing storm of affliction? Maybe you are travailing in a tempest that impacts you spiritually, mentally, emotionally and/or physically.  For instance, the Pastor you have prayed for, supported and served under faithfully for decades eviscerated his office when he disclosed his investment in infidelity.  Maybe you painfully have to process the reality that your spouse has been seduced and swallowed by the slimy pit of pornography.  Perhaps your once academically ascending valedictorian son or daughter has crashed into a canyon of chaos, confusion and captivity due to drinking and drugging!  Maybe your life savings and retirement income has evaporated under the scorching sun of treatments for sickness and disease.  While this list of storms is in no degree exhaustive we must look to the bottom line:  being a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ will not exempt us from the maladies and misfortunes of a fallen world that longs for redemption.

“Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.  For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.”  - Romans  8:21-22 (KJV)

Even our Lord Jesus Christ shared with us in His word that we will have tribulation (John16:33).

The dictionary defines tribulation as a pressing together or pressure also described asoppression, affliction, or distress.  Therefore it is imperative that we maintain a mindset that is consistent with the Master in the maelstroms of life.  Join me again next week when we continue to examine our attitudes in adversity.
