An Attitude of Accessorizing the Almighty - Part Two

“Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all.” 1 Chronicles 29:11 (KJV)

In last week’s blog, I introduced the concept that many of us approach the Almighty God with an attitude that He is an accessory to our lives and our life’s plans. Following up on the discussion that I forwarded from last week, I ask: Are you too busy or self-absorbed when it comes to the time that our gracious Lord has given you? If your answer is in the affirmative, then I submit to you that you have been seduced to reduce the Almighty God (in your mind and heart) to an accessory such as an earring, necklace, tie or a tube of lipstick.

The opening text addresses an accessorized attitude about God by calling us to accurately access, apply and thereby ascend in the attitude of our hearts of who He is. It is only by the awesome work of the Spirit of God and His Word that we can abandon and annihilate what I believe to be an abhorrent attitude about God.

According to the Word of God, God is absolutely all-powerful! The Scriptures advance the absolute truth to God’s ultimate authority and might over all things.  He is the ALMIGHTY!

God introduces Himself for the first time as Almighty when He appeared to Abraham in Genesis 17:1: “And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect” (KJV)

When we see God as Almighty, our self-autonomy, arrogance and allegiance to self will be smitten. This is because we should be struck by His power and by the fact that He is unequivocally great, massive and monumentally mighty! Here what the Scriptures say about God as the Almighty:

“For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward.” Deuteronomy 10:17 (KJV)

“But the LORD is the true God, he is the living God, and an everlasting king: at his wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide his indignation. Thus shall ye say unto them, The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, even they shall perish from the earth, and from under these heavens. He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by his discretion.” Jeremiah 10:10-12 (KJV)

When we personally identity God as Almighty it enables us to eviscerate our egos while also encouraging the sense of awe and wonder we have toward Him. It provides us with an uninhibited understanding that He is God above all things. God cannot never be contained or captured by our carnal constructs created by corrupt cognition.

In closing, I call you to consider the condition of your hearts and minds. Is your mind and heart arrested by an accessorized attitude? Is it causing you to conduct your walk before Christ with a contemptible and convoluted concept about who God is? If so, Repent! Think with the mind of Christ! If not, you will continue to see God as a trinket and treat Him anyway you want.

For the Glory of God,
