More Christ in Christmas

“But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever. Amen.” 2 Peter 3:18 (KJV)

A few years ago around Christmas, I was blessed by a wonderful testimony that turned my attention to a tremendous truth taught in the word: C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S. At the close of our weekly Wednesday night prayer meeting and bible study one of our precious seniors shared with me how she noticed something special in the word Christmas while participating in our Finishing Strong Seniors ministry. One of the seniors was adorned in seasonal, sweet-looking sweater with the words Merry Christmas in huge letters! The individual that shared the story said “She shouted ‘Oh my goodness! I have never seen that before! I love Christmas even more because of what I see in the word Christmas! It is a personal message for me!’” Her rich revelation rested in the last three letters in the word Christmas (mas). She is not of Latin descent but she declared that the last three letters in the word Christmas (mas) means “more” in Spanish. Therefore we should want more Christ in Christmas. Personally, I am proclaiming: “That will preach!”

Christmas is the time of year of giving and sharing with family and friends! However, no matter how many times you tell yourself that Jesus is the Reason for the season, we are sometimes smitten with stress, trapped and wrapped with shopping and hopping from one party to the next! Unfortunately, we can be dominated by decking the halls and walls inside and out, laboring in limitless lights, captured by card-sending and purposeful in picture-taking. Even evangelicals and the like will be roped up in religious activities like Christmas concerts or pageants and programs. Give others more Christ this Christmas! Give the gift of the Gospel! Show them the Savior in your actions. Just as Jesus has lavished you with forgiveness, freely grant forgiveness to those that have frozen you in bitterness and brokenness. Fix yourself in faith and not fear. Walk in His wonder and choose not to worry.

Like my sweet sister, I say “Give me more CHRIST!” More of His personal power, presence, peace, perspective and His precious Spirit in our lives. Let’s treat ourselves to not just the traditions but His tremendous treasure of truth. So all I want for Christmas is MORE CHRIST! What say you?

For the Glory of God,
