Do You Walk with God?
“And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.” - Genesis 5:24 (KJV)
In the Holy Scriptures the word “walk” is consistently connected with fellowship and obedience to God. Our God has always wanted to walk with us! What a transcending truth to which we can hold fast! It blesses me immensely that the LORD Jehovah, the self-existing, holy and only true God favors us for fellowship! This undisputable truth gives new meaning to the expression “walking tall”. All of God’s children should be walking tall because of who walks with us. And body of Christ, nobody carries a bigger stick than our God!! Read what these scriptures have to say about the mightiness of our God:
“O Lord GOD, thou hast begun to shew thy servant thy greatness, and thy mighty hand: for what God is there in heaven or in earth, that can do according to thy works, and according to thy might?” - Deuteronomy 3:24 (KJV)
“Thou shalt not be affrighted at them: for the LORD thy God is among you, a mighty God and terrible.” - Deuteronomy 7:21 (KJV)
“The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.” - Zephaniah 3:17 (KJV)
Enoch’s walk as evidenced by fellowship and obedience was so wonderful before God that God walked him out of this world and took him heaven! What a way to go to God! I submit to you that this strongly supersedes going to God in your sleep!
The scriptures are silent as to why God personally selected Enoch to go to heaven without experiencing death. However, I would like to consider the following thoughts about the essentiality of walking with God.
Point #1: God walks with those with whom He has made a covenant. The person that is in a covenant relationship with the Holy God is never exempt from his or her responsibility: obedience and fellowship!
“And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.” - Genesis 17:1 (KJV) (Emphasis mine.)
“This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised.” - Genesis17:10 (KJV)
God’s command for every male child to be circumcised required diligent obedience.
“Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD.” - Jeremiah 31:32 (KJV)
Point #2: God has told us in the scriptures how we should walk in humility, faith, obedience, truthfulness, gratitude, in the light and love.
In Humility:
“He has showed you oh man, what is good and what does the Lord require of you, do justly, love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” - Micah 6:8 (KJV)
In Faith:
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” - 2 Corinthians 5:7 (KJV)
In Obedience:
“But this thing commanded I them, saying, ‘Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.’” - Jeremiah 7:23 (KJV)
In Truthfulness:
“He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.” - 1 John 2:6 (KJV)
In Gratitude:
“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” - 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (KJV)
In the Light:
“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” - 1 John 1:7 (KJV)
In Love:
“And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour.” - Ephesians 5:2 (KJV)
