The Bold Truth About Biblical Deliverance
“Jehovah is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; My God, my rock, in whom I will take refuge; My shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower.” Psalm 18:2 (KJV, emphasis mine)
This week’s subject calls for clarity in addition to cementing us in the truth with respect with what the Bible says about deliverance. As always, the Bible is our book of authority. It advances wisdom for salvation as well as how to accurately address spiritual and life issues that challenge us in a complex world that is consistently hostile, irreverent and apathetic to the Scriptures. Listen to what God says about the power and importance of His Word:
“The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; the statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.” Psalm 19:7-8 (KJV, emphasis mine)
“I will worship toward Your holy temple, and praise Your name for Your lovingkindness and for Your truth; for You have exalted Your word above all Your name.” Psalm 138:2 (KJV, emphasis mine)
“There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the Lord.” Proverbs 21:30 (KJV)
Because Biblical Authority is eternal and uncompromising it will never be subject to emotional machinations of man nor man’s treatise or traditions. Therefore, we must embrace a biblical position on Deliverance.
As a minister of the Gospel and Pastor (under-shepherd) for the Great and Good Shepherd I have notice that the topic of deliverance has been caught in controversy, confusion and carnality. I have been asked or even challenged by who I believe to be well meaning souls about having deliverance services or a deliverance ministry. People seek deliverance from drugs and alcohol, depression, demonic possession, serial promiscuity, psychological problems, maladies and a plethora of other problems. I believe that all of these issues are the products of a fallen world that is cursed with sin amplified by satanic influences.
The Bible is bold to declare the absolute and undisputed deliver in this world is Jesus Christ the Lord.
“Jesus went throughout all Galilee teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all sorts of diseases among the people.” Matthew 4:23 (KJV, emphasis mine)
“Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.” Matthew 9:35 (KJV, emphasis mine)
“In that same hour He cured many of their infirmities and afflictions and evil spirits. And to many who were blind He gave sight.” Luke 7:21 (KJV, emphasis mine)
The bottom line is that the Bible is inseparable from deliverance and healing because Jesus is the Word (Bible) incarnate. Any spiritual event or experience is not bullet-proof but Bible-proof! Join me again next week as we explore and excavate what the Bible has to expresses about deliverance; specifically the what, when, how, and who?
