A Poor Spirit Prevents the Preoccupation of Pride

“Blessed are the poor in Spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” Matthew 5:3 (KJV)

Recently, I was speaking to a precious soul that was held hostage by the power of hell (Satan) and was a slave to a life-dominating sin. God’s matchless grip of grace snatched her from the falsehood of her false god (substance abuse) and restored fellowship with the true God: Jesus Christ.

“And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.” 1 John 5:20-21 (KJV, emphasis added)

She asked me, “Pastor, why don’t people look to the Lord for their deliverance and why do we leave Him?” Immediately the word “pride” was pronounced from my lips. What says the Word of God?

“The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.” Psalm 10:4 (KJV, emphasis added)

“When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.” Proverbs 11:2 (KJV, emphasis added)

Our opening text points us to an essential eternal element that grants us entrance and citizenship in the Kingdom of our Lord.

The poor in spirit are people who are conscious of their own severe spiritual deficiency and failure. Our Lord Jesus Christ had proclaimed the coming of the kingdom in His earlier preaching. Now He confirms who is qualified to be citizens of the kingdom. Humility places our hearts and hands to take hold of heaven. Pride places our hearts and hands to take hold of hell.

The presence of humility is an absolute dynamic for an eternal relationship with God!!!

“But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.” James 4:6 (KJV)

Body of Christ: “Humility gives you a head that thinks like heaven, a heart that has the power of heaven, hands that hold the hope of heaven and the habits that point others to heaven.”
