A Conscience Congruent with God
I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope Psalm 16:8-9 (KJV)
Congruent means to be in agreement or harmony. More simply stated it is a reference to being “on the same page” with someone else. Generally speaking, when there is a titanic task or paramount project that requires more than one individual to bring the task to completion congruence is central for completion. As we transition from a working or professional setting to a personal setting such as marriage and family, we can substantiate that congruence is essential for a successful marriage and family.
“And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.” Mark 3:25 (KJV)
Congruence is especially germane to our relationship with God. What saith scripture?
“Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” Amos 3:3 (KJV, emphasis added)
“And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.” Genesis 5:22 (KJV, emphasis added)
“And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.” Genesis 17:1 (KJV, emphasis added)
“Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.” 2 Corinthians 6:14-16 (KJV, emphasis added)
Coming alongside, communion, concord and connection are considerable components to a conscious that is congruent with God. Being in agreement or like-minded with the Lord our God is an absolute essential for the follower of Jesus Christ
From our opening text, David stated that he is purposely putting himself on the same page with God. That is what it means to set the Lord before us.
Deeply loved by God, my brother and sisters can you characterized your heart and mind as being consistently in congruence with God? Maybe this is the game changer that you need to implement in specific areas of your life, especially your Christianity. Consider the substantial strides one can make in his or her connection or closeness with God if he or she is actively pursuing a congruent mindset.
However, in our pursuit of like-mindedness with God, we must remember that the world will never be on the same page with God due to their spiritual symbiotic status with Satan.
“Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?” 2 Corinthians 6:14-15 (KJV, emphasis added)
“Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.” James 4:4 (KJV, emphasis added)
If we have truly been conceived to Christ by his Holy Spirit, we will be congruent with His mind on the most controversial topics including: abortion/reproductive rights, same sex unions, transgenderism, homosexuality, sex outside of marriage, parenting, integration of Scripture with psychological theory, bigger and excessive encroachment of government versus a government limited in its reach as well as a plethora of other positions of incongruence in today’s culture.
Remember, dearly loved, a conscience that is callous and cemented in a consistent contemptible challenge to our Christian convictions (those convictions that are held in complete compliance to the Word of God) will never be congruent with Christ the Lord.
For the Glory of God,
