Tossed About with Turbulent Worldly Winds

“That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ.” Ephesians 4:14-15 (KJV, emphasis added)

There is no doubt that at this moment in our country’s history the ubiquitous winds of identity politics, vociferous political correctness, judicial activism, anarchy, cultural conflict and the newest arrival, the cancer culture, have captured and controlled the consciences of many. Even evangelicals, the church culture, and professing Christians are being tossed about by what I have labeled the winds of the world. As it relates to these winds of the world, the Word of God admonishes us to be anchored and attached to the rock of the Word and truth.

“And he said, The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.” 2 Samuel 22:2 (KJV)

If we are not fastened to the immovable Rock (Jesus the Living Word), we will be carried away and caught in the winds of ideological constructs that are cemented in carnality and sustained by satanic sources.

“Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.” Colossians 2:8 (KJV)

“As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.” 2 Peter 3:16-18 (KJV)

Have you ever considered that celebrities, entertainers, social activists, politicians, media personalities, college professors, educators, corporate magnets and elitists of every other sector of influence are the twenty-first century’s version of false prophets? In our opening text, the Apostle Paul exhorts us to exercise both spiritual and mental stability in the storms of life. He is specifically relating this charge to teachings, philosophies, worldviews, and movements of unsaved men and women. As believers we should not be reduced to exploited and bamboozled babies being blown all over the place by sinister and satanical schemers. I characterize them as satanic because they display the consistent characteristics of the enemy. They are cunning liars like their father, the devil. And in the future, they will continue to profusely promote their perversions.

“Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.” John 8:44 (KJV)

“But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them.” 2 Timothy 3:13-14 (KJV)

Therefore, we must saturate ourselves in the truth and purpose to speak the truth in love. This is the behavior of believers that are spiritually maturing and not messing around in diapers. Believers that dump their diapers can discern and defend themselves against the deceivers promoting the current cultural discourse. When we are tied to truth we will not be tossed by the turbulent winds of the world.

For the Glory of God,
