The Bold Truth About Biblical Deliverance
“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor; He has sent me to heal the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound.” Isaiah 61:1-2 (KJV, emphasis mine)
The word of God is very direct and deliberate in declaring that Jesus Christ is the only One that can deliver us from the slavery, seduction, sickness, strength and sentence of sin which is separation from God. Listen to what the Scriptures say:
“But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you so that He will not hear.” Isaiah 59:2 (KJV)
“The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, 'Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.'" John 1:29 (KJV)
“But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in sins, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved).” Ephesians 2:4-5 (KJV)
Before coming to Christ, not only was I degenerate but I was also dominated by deception and doubt. I believed that bad news was the daily staple of the day and my life was destined to dismay. I was internally incarcerated in emotional, mental and spiritual strongholds that were satanically-stirred. However, by the power of Christ in me, hope of glory, I was delivered!
Our introductory passage of Scripture provides a powerful proof text for deliverance. This passage starts with the Power behind deliverance, the means and delivery, as well as the directive! The dynamic of deliverance is Divine with the delivery of the Gospel message. The directive is clearly defined: Heal the broken-hearted by delivering us from the brokenness in our lives!
Process with me the pathology of the broken-hearted: anger, confusion, bitterness, emptiness, apathy, discontentment, anxiousness, pride, foolishness, lust, prejudice, self-condemnation, entitlement, self worship and self pity. This list is not exhaustive but echoes our evil heart apart from the anointing, abiding and authority of the Holy Spirit. Again, we see our deliverance in what Isaiah has declared in setting the captives free, being loosened from strongholds that are satanically situated in our minds and hearts. My question to you is whose report will you receive?
The door of deliverance is directly for us but we must choose to walk through that door daily!
