TRUST is a MUST!
“As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him.” 2 Samuel 22:31 (KJV, emphasis mine)
I open this week’s blog with the lyrics of not only a popular but a powerful piece of Christian music from Lauren Daigle. Daigle is an American contemporary Christian music singer-songwriter from Lafayette, Louisiana. Her song “Trust in You” truly captures a transcending principle that is paramount for a pure, persistent and personal relationship with God.
When you don't move the mountains
I'm needing you to move
When you don't part the waters
I wish I could walk through
When you don't give the answers
As I cry out to you
I will trust, I will trust, I will trust in you
Did you notice that in triune spirit she declares “I will trust?” Yes, Trust is a Must!
Trust is a vital word that gives a visual with respect to victory in the Lord as well as the validity of a relationship with Him. A quick key word search of the Bible is also revealing in this regard. Are you aware that the word “trust” is mentioned 188 times in the Scriptures? In light of so many references to trust, it should arrest our attention and help us to appropriate this divine mandate from the Master in our life. Let’s start with a working definition of the word trust.
Trust is the absolute reliance in the CIA of GOD. In other words His:
Character = moral or ethical quality; i.e. a man of fine, honorable character; qualities of honesty, courage, reputation
Integrity = the state of being whole, entire, or undiminished: a sound, unimpaired, or perfect condition
Ability = the power or capacity to do or act physically, mentally, legally, morally, financially, etc.
In the King James Version of the book of Proverbs the statement “TRUST IN THE LORD” is made five times.
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5 (KJV)
“He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the LORD, happy is he.” Proverbs 16:20 (KJV)
“That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.” Proverbs 22:19 (KJV)
“He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his trust in the LORD shall be made fat.” Proverbs 28:25 (KJV)
“The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.” Proverbs 29:25 (KJV)
IF WE ARE TRUSTING IN ANYONE OR ANYTHING OVER OR MORE THAN GOD IT IS AN IDOL. An IDOL is something that affects the following areas of your life:
Influence
Direction
Obedience
Love
By application, if you are abiding in a disquieting emotion such as fear, despair, anger etc., with the upmost respect and care I submit to you that you are engaging in idolatry. Considering the previously mentioned four characteristics of an idol you must recognize that your idol has encouraged you to supplant your Savior and Lord. One: He is not the most influential person in your life. Two: As a result, He is not directing you. Three: You are not obeying the Lord. Four: Your love and loyalty to the Lord has been replaced.
Deeply loved of God, do you see an idol in your life that has infected your spiritual heart and thereby injured your intimacy with the Lord? I encourage you to perform a personal evaluation and determine if there is anything or anyone other than God that has control of your heart. Remember that it is God’s heart that He has all of your heart in order to prevent the habit of trusting in your own heart.
