The Belittlement of the Blood of Jesus

The Belittlement of the Blood of Jesus

How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? Hebrews 9:14

Question? Does your behavior belittle the blood of Jesus?  The inquiry is intentional. Specifically, as it relates to your walk, worship, and work for the Lord. Before you begin this exercise of personal examination, lets first refresh our minds and hearts of the eternal efficacy of the Blood of Jesus.

I believe the New Jersey Mass Choir captured this colossal truth in the lyrics of their gargantuan gospel hit “OH THE BLOOD OF JESUS”

With spirit filled and soul stirred and sanctified hearts they sang that the Blood of Jesus will; NEVER GONNA LOSE, NEVER EVER GONNA LOSE IT’S POWER, 365 DAYS OF THE YEAR, EVERY SECOND, EVERY MINUTE EVERY HOUR. NEVER GONNA LOSE, NEVER EVER GONNA LOSE ITS POWER!

Now when we examine the phrase the blood of Jesus, it's advantageous to process this phrase with powerful biblical truth with the strength of the Spirit. This is particularly paramount to see how the blood of Jesus Christ exercises its transcending work in our lives.

Our opening text declares that the blood of Jesus purged our conscience from dead works for the purpose of personally serving the living God! In other words, a conscience dominated by dead (sinful) thoughts was cleansed and consecrated us and gave us the capacity to serve our God who is alive forevermore!

Revelation 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

In addition, the blood of Jesus rinses us from our rebellion, sanctifies us for his service, and atones and reconciles us into a rich and real relationship to God.

Consider with me what the word of God declared regarding the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ that He shed for sinners and poured out for the powerless.

Luke 22:20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you

Ephesians 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

Hebrews 13:12 Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate.

1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

Revelation 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood

Now you would think that with all that the word of God has to say about the perpetual power of the blood of Jesus’ work in our lives, we would never marginalize the ministry of the blood of Jesus by adorning ourselves with robes of apathy, crippled commitment, and a voracious appetite for vices.  Unfortunately, too many of us in the body of Christ are belittling the blood of Christ with behavior that suggests that we were never bought by God with the blood of His son.  If you are willing, I invite you to join me next time to examine the attitudes and behaviors that disparage discipleship and devotion to the Lord.

Not a sermon just some thoughts,
