Seeking a Secret Place Part 2
“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalm 91:1 (KJV)
When we examine the eternal Word of God you will discover that the phrase “secret place” can be identified as a physical location. For instance, in Psalm 37:7 the Word of God declares, “Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah.” (KJV) However, the phrase "secret place" is also a reference to the way our soul is in sync to a rich and real relationship with God. Consider what we read in Psalms 27:5: “For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.” (KJV) Did you notice the personal pronouns? God prioritizes our relationship with Him. He will personally take action to procure our protection in His pavilion and establish us in a position of security and stability by placing us on His rock. These verses along with our opening text point to the significance of a secret place.
Consider with me all our childhood secret places that we slipped to for security and solace. Maybe a deep corner in your closet, an ambiguous place in the attic or a well-placed obscure spot in the woods. You knew you were safe and protected from the world. You pretended that you could dwell there all the time and no one could find you.
Beloved: God has a secret hiding place, and He welcomes each of us to walk in so he can wrap us with a wonder blanket of protection. Notice this is not a vacay but a stay-cay. The guarantee is to those who “dwell” there. To “dwell” means we stay there. It becomes what I refer to as an absolute address. Like the Jeffersons: We move up when we move in! This can only be a reality when we reject and remove ourselves from the commotion, confusion, conflict, and attractions of the world.
Remember where the Prince of Peace told us to go to position ourselves in peace? We must park in His presence.
“But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.” Matthew 6:6 (KJV)
To really unite with God, we must enter the secret place in our own spirits and meet God there. Tranquil places are productive, and we must pursue and prioritize a secret place with God.
When there is tremendous trouble, turbulent trials, and a tsunami of turmoil in the world especially in your heart, seek a secret place and place yourself in the shadow and security of the All Mighty!
For the Glory of God,
