Having a Head and Heart that maintains the meaning of Christmas.

Having a Head and Heart that maintains the meaning of Christmas.

Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me: Hebrews 10:5

"What Christmas Means to Me" is the title of several Christmas songs. And what is considered the top version of the song was written by the team of Allen Story, Anna Gordy Gaye, and George Gordy in 1965.  Gordy co-wrote Stevie Wonder's "What Christmas Means to Me." And by now during this Christmas season you have most likely heard Mr. Wonder’s words to this catchy Christmas song played on many playlists from radio to retailers.

Oh yeah

Candles burning low

Lots of mistletoe

Lots of snow and ice

Everywhere we go

Choirs singing carols

Right outside my door

All these things and more

(All these things and more)

That's what Christmas means to me, my love

(That's what Christmas means to me, my love)

But for bona fide believers Christmas is more than candles burning low, mistletoe and ice and snow. Christmas is one of the most significant Christian holidays of the year. For Christians, the true meaning of Christmas is the exaltation, elevation, and celebration of the arrival of the Savior of the world, Jesus Christ.

Matthew 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

1 Timothy 1:15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

Christmas is a time of Christlike contemplation on the essential foundations of the Christian faith. It’s when Christians remember and rejoice in God’s love for the world through the birth of his son who is indeed Immanuel!

Infinite God introduces himself to a world of iniquity filled with individuals with iniquity in their hearts. The scriptures share about his birth hundreds of years before, fulfilling prophecies.

Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Most importantly the real meaning of Christmas is God’s matchless love for us!

John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved

Romans 5:8-9 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

Remember, God wrapped himself in the weakness of humanity and thereby gave us a gift that keeps on giving. And that gift is the gift of God which is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23)

When our heads and our hearts hold fast to this truth we will always be tied to the true meaning of Christmas!

Not a sermon, just some thoughts.
