Absolute Truth Is Tied To Godliness

“Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness.” Titus 1:1 (KJV, emphasis added)

Have you ever exercised an exploration for the Truth? In a culture that consistently capitulates to relativistic concepts, truth is considered fluid or incarcerated in ideologies of indifference. Try proclaiming truth on a university campus and you will be caught in the consequential clash of world views. You’re likely to be subject to scorn and derision.

The concept of truth has clearly crashed on cemented times. Furthermore, the consequences of rejecting truth are ripping out significant and serious seams from human society. Therefore, it is wise to walk back to the launch of our leading question: What is truth?

Truth has always been arrested in arguments. To make an ascending claim to know the truth is to claim to know facts that everyone everywhere should consider. To identify an answer to a question as “true” is an indictment that at least some other answers are false. And it’s inevitable that things will get personal. It should come as no surprise that tempers will steam over the struggle with truth. Still worse, total wars have been incited—at least in part—by incongruous truth claims.

A basic definition drawn from the Bible discloses the following: Truth is that which is consistent with the mind, will, character, glory, and being of God. Hear what Jesus unapologetically declares:

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6 (KJV)

Therefore, Truth is the self-expression of God and entirely embodied in a Person who is never eclipsed; that is the biblical meaning of Truth. Because the definition of Truth is situated in God and it streams from God, Truth is theological.

I also submit, in faith, that Truth is inseparable or tied to godliness. Simply put, if your point is not positioned in God you are fixed in falsehood. Remember Jesus said: “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth” (John 17:17, KJV)

Only God can set us free from falsehoods. We can only know the truth which sets us free when it is fixed in godliness.
