Honoring The Holy One With Your Vote - Part Two

“Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.” Proverbs 14:34 (KJV)

An examination of American history advances and anchors our position that the framers of this nation took stock in the significance of the Scriptures. They founded this nation with faith in the God of the Bible. Many of the founding fathers had Christian backgrounds and submitted statements supported by faith. Consider Patrick Henry. For the most part, many of us remember Patrick Henry’s explosive declaration, “Give me liberty, or give me death!” Many believed that Patrick Henry purposed to be remembered for his 1765 Stamp Act Resolves that placed the colonies in a position to establish their independence. However, Henry’s greater legacy is underscored by the conviction and call that he communicates in the following quote:

Righteousness alone can exalt [America] as a nation. Reader! Whoever thou art, remember this; and in thy sphere practice virtue thyself, and encourage it in others… [T]he great pillars of all government and of social life: I mean virtue, morality, and religion. This is the armor, my friend, and this alone, that renders us invincible.” –Patrick Henry

In this statement, Henry was referencing the wisdom of Proverbs 14:34. I believe that it was his heart that we as a nation should wrap our minds and hearts in this wisdom and walk in it! His speeches and correspondence were cemented in Scripture. He knew that righteousness alone could exalt America, but he also was aware that righteousness does not come naturally to men. It is also plausible that as a man of faith Henry was familiar with what the Holy Scriptures stated about the human condition, the consequences of our sins and self-righteousness.

“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” Jeremiah 17:9 (KJV)

“But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. And there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee: for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us, because of our iniquities.” Isaiah 64:6-7 (KJV)

Therefore, Henry and the other founding framers pursued a new way to govern. They purposed to establish a nation, the United States of America, that would be governed in an unconventional way. It would have a government indebted to its people, instead of a people indebted to the government, and only God’s Word (the Bible) would be its authority.

Brothers and Sisters in Christ and citizens of the Kingdom of God, righteousness is inseparable from honoring God. In addition, God-honoring polices are produced and put forward by God-honoring officials.

“When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.” Proverbs 29:2 (KJV)

So, with a collective Christ-conditioned conscience and constitutional conviction, let us cast our ballots as believers and thereby honor the Holy One. When considering for whom to vote, ask yourself which candidate:

Values faith, family, and freedom
Overcame a malicious media and salacious socialists in the swamp
Trustworthy regarding the protection of our children and their futures
Extraordinary executive that produces results and does not pontificate broken promises
