No Place Like Home

“A Prayer of Moses the man of God. Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations.” Psalms 90:1 (KJV, emphasis added)

For the most part one’s home is the happiest, enjoyable and most comfortable place in the world. This sentiment is echoed in the phrase: ”There is no place like home.” According to Dictionary.com, the phrase “There is no place like home” means that home is the best of all places. This saying originates from the song “Home, Sweet Home” that was written by American lyricist John Howard Payne and English composer Sir Henry Bishop. “Home, Sweet Home” was originally included in an opera first produced in London in 1823. The song became intensely popular throughout the United States. When our nation was explosively engaged in a Civil war between the Union (North) and the Confederates (South) the song Home Sweet Home was a favorite for the soldiers of both sides.

Home! Home!
Sweet, sweet home!
There's no place like home
There's no place like home

'Mid pleasures and palaces
Though I may roam
Be it ever so humble
There's no place like home

A charm from the sky
Seems to hallow us there
Which seek thro' the world
Is ne'er met with elsewhere

To thee, I'll return
Overburdened with care
The heart's dearest solace
Will smile on me there

No more from that cottage
Again I will roam
Be it ever so humble
There's no place like home

A servant and significant man of God by the name of Moses opened his prayer in Psalm 90 declaring that God has always been our home: “Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations.” Did you notice that he deliberately declared that God has been our home for past, present and future generations to come? The term dwelling place is defined as a building or place of shelter to live in; place of residence; abode; home. It is where we live. Therefore, I can confidently say like Moses that as children of God we are never homeless. Our homes should not be limited to aesthetics, or real estate but our relationship with God. For those who are at home with God, the following four aspects will be advertised in our witness.

Heart: Our heart wants what God wants. We enjoy intimacy with Him. Our faith is fixed and centered on Him and our emotions are policed by Him.
Occupancy: He lives in us and we in Him.
Memories: We do not forget where we come from and what He saved us from. And we make it a practice to remember His Son’s death on the cross.
Entertain: We enjoy making time for Him and He is always the most important guest.

You cannot be at home with God if you are at home with the world.
