Today is Thanksgiving

“Give thanks unto the LORD, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people.” 1 Chronicles 16:8 (KJV)

When considering the title of this week’s blog, one may conclude that I am a week late. According to the 2021 calendar, Thanksgiving was last Thursday, November 25th. And by now many of us are still recovering from all the love we lavished on the turkey and superlative side dishes. And if the food was fabulous, we all super-sized our dishes and went for seconds.

Overall, national data tells us that Thanksgiving is our favorite holiday after Christmas. Again, we show the love by stacking our dishes sky high with terrific turkey, scrumptious stuffing, sensational sweet potatoes, pleasing pumpkin pie, and other holiday staples that smite us with happiness. It is estimated that 46 million turkeys are eaten around the holiday according to the U.S. Poultry and Egg Association. That’s a ton of turkey transitioning from the terrestrial to our plates. But now it’s time to transition to the most salient thought.

Today is Monday, November 29, 2021, and I also submit to you that today is Thanksgiving!  For the Christian, we are called to give thanks to God for everything and every day!

“O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.” Psalms 107:1 (KJV)

“O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. O give thanks unto the God of gods: for his mercy endureth for ever. O give thanks to the Lord of lords: for his mercy endureth for ever.” Psalms 136:1-3 (KJV)

“In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (KJV)

When I ponder placing myself in a position of gratitude, I am gripped and arrested by God’s attributes. I am thankful for the following transcending truths about our Father God.

  • HIS Truth sanctifies and guides.

  • HIS Holiness dwells in us and without it one can ever see God.

  • HIS Authority is always righteous and will always exist.

  • HE Never lies and will never leave us.

  • HE Knows my name and my every thought, as well as what I need.

  • HIS Salvation is solely through the Lord Jesus Christ.

A soul that does not give thanks to God is a soul who serves a false god named self.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
