Hang Your Holy Light High

“The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.” Isaiah 9:2 (KJV)

It’s that time of year again! The arduous chore of checking Christmas light connections has commenced. In addition, there will be cooperation and, Lord-willing, minimal to zero frustration from every Christmas lightbulb that served and shined brilliantly the previous year. Finally, the call for indoor and outdoor service will be summoned. Now I invite you to entertain the following incandescent insights on Christmas lights.

Are you aware the hanging of Christmas lights is inseparable from hope? First, we hope the lights will come on and we hope we don’t fall while hanging the lights! Second, one of the reasons that we place ourselves in high positions to hang lights at a height that delights many hearts relates back to Thomas Edison.

History reveals that in 1880 Mr. Edison held the patent for his remarkable and revolutionizing incandescent light bulb. Mr. Edison was extraordinarily imbued with insight. Consequently, he made the decision to illuminate the outside of his men’s laboratory with his innovative invention. It is said that his rationale for taking the action was twofold. First, he wanted to infuse and invigorate individuals in the holiday spirit. And second, he sought to launch his magnificent invention to the masses. Predictably, everyone was profoundly arrested in amazement by Edison’s inventiveness. The seismic-sized success speared his associate, Edward Johnson, to envision light bulbs that enjoyed illumination with diversification. Therefore, two years later, Johnson began marketing strings of Edison’s bulbs for Christmas trees. Each string of lights was glowingly outfitted with eighty electric bulbs.  However, it would take some considerable time for patrons to process and purchase this new product. In 1914 the price of the lights became more affordable, and the acquisition of this amazing invention accelerated. People exchanged their hazardous Christmas tree candles for the groundbreaking and glowing invention.

Now let’s transition from the topic of Christmas lights to the Light of Christmas, Jesus Christ. This week’s blog title beckons a blessing for these troubling and tumultuous times in which we live. So many minds and hearts are draped in darkness, and many will fall into deep ditches of depression and despair. Fountains of falsehood flood our land and have fixed innumerable hearts and minds in fear and heavy hopelessness.

Deeply loved by God: let’s be resolute in reflecting the Light of the World, Jesus Christ, this holiday season.

“For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.” Psalm 36:9 (KJV)

“God is the LORD, which hath shewed us light.” Psalms 118:27a (KJV)

“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.” Matthew 5:14 (KJV)

Hang your light high so all can see His:

  • Love

  • Innocence

  • Grace

  • Happiness

  • Truth

You can’t have a Christmas Light without Christ.

For the Glory of God,
