Don’t Forget God’s Word
“I will not forget thy word.” Psalms 119:6b (KJV)
All our lives we have been charged to not forget something. When we were school-aged children we were told not to forget books, school supplies, homework and to behave. I was raised in an era that if one’s behavior in school was not becoming to the scholastic setting, school principals partnered with parents to transform the misbehaving to behaving with a biblical method that masterfully mitigated challenges from the insubordinate. Mr. R.O.D., the Reminder of Discipline, was always present to encourage education for the head, heart and the part of the anatomy that was often attached to the chair. Mr. R.O.D. was phenomenal at placing us in a position to remember expectations regarding our behavior in the educational environment. We must not forget that corporal chastening comes from God’s Word.
“He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes [soon or early]. Proverbs 13:24 (KJV, emphasis added)
“Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die. Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.” Proverbs 23:14-15 (KJV, emphasis added)
“Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.” Proverbs 24:15 (KJV)
At this point, I should transition away from this topic because this truth is probably too traumatic for many. However, the tool of training that is taught in Scripture is not the issue. I submit to you that the issue is with the iniquitous implementation and the ill-will investment of discipline done by individuals intoxicated by control, fear, anger, and fleshy frustration as opposed to the faith and fixture in the Spirit of God. Discipline directed by the Spirit of God is never conducted under a fleshly attitude but one that desires to instruct, train, and guide out of love.
“He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.” Proverbs 25:28 (KJV)
“This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.” Galatians 5:16 (KJV)
“And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit.” Ephesians 5:18 (KJV)
Returning to our original thought, if you were blessed to belong to a family that was fortunate enough to have the means to travel, you were reminded to pack the necessities, tickets, passports etc. In life events and experiences, the echo of “don’t forget” fixes our hearts to remember dates, meetings, exams, appointments, game plans, presentations, objectives, and missions. This is far from an exhaustive list of things that we were incessantly implored not to forget. However, are you aware that the Word of God has emphatically call us not to forget His Word?
To be proactive in the prevention of forgetting God’s Word, I invite you to join me next time when we will consider some incentives and instruction. Don’t forget to check in next week!
For the Glory of God,
