A Personal Portrait of Jesus

“And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.” 1 Corinthians 15:49 (KJV)

If you came into my office, you would notice that I have a number of pictures of my family. One of my favorite pictures is one of my three sons and me. Right away, the family resemblance is so apparent so that even Ray Charles would say “You got the right one, baby! Uh-huh!” I offer you this question: Can a world blinded by the enemy see that you look like Jesus? Now it is important to note that I am not referring to our Lord’s physical appearance. I am referencing His Spirit and character as well as His heart and mind. So, consider with me how people can see the Lord in your life.

People will see Jesus when we practice and promote His:

Love
“Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.” 1 John 4:7-8 (KJV)

Light
“As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” John 9:5 (KJV)

Grace & Truth
“For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.” John 1:17 (KJV)

Direction, Truth & Life
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6 (KJV)

Obedience & Humility
“And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.” Philippians 2:8 (KJV)

Desire to Please God the Father
“And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.” John 8:29 (KJV)

His Ministry and Commission
“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” Matthew 28:19-20 (KJV)

Now these seven markers of the Master are far from being an exhaustive list, but they call us to consistently present a portrait of our Lord in our lives. We should look like Who we live for!
