Personalizing The Power Of The Passover
“Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.” 1 Peter 1:18-19 (KJV)
Great old-school gospel songs still grip me. Faith-filled and far-reaching gospel greats stirred our souls, inspired our intimacy, and tied our trust to God, songs such as James Cleveland’s “Peace be Still,” Albertina Walker’s “God is Able to Carry you Through,” and The Edwin Hawkins Singers’ “Oh Happy Day.” Now that the Passion season has commenced, my head and my heart is again captured by another Gospel song that is apropos to the Passion of our Lord and Lamb of God, Jesus: “The Blood Will Never Lose its Power” by Andrae Crouch. In the opening lyrics, Pastor and producer Andrae Crouch perspicuously points us to when, where and whose blood will never lose its power.
The blood that Jesus shed for me
Way back on Calvary
The blood that gives me strength
From day to day
It will never lose its power
It reaches to the highest mountain
It flows to the lowest valley
The blood that gives me strength
From day to day
It will never lose its power
In the ancient Israelites’ history, we see a foreshadowing of the power of Jesus’ blood; power to move us and cover us from the judgment of God (death), which we deserve.
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23 (KJV, emphasis added)
According to the Scriptures, the Word of God, during the tenth and final plague, God passes through the land of Egypt and strikes down the firstborn of every household. However, God instructed His people, the Israelites, to mark their doors with the blood of a lamb. God declared that when He saw the blood of the slain lamb, He would pass over each home exempting them from the judgment and loss of the household’s firstborn.
“For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD. And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.” Exodus 12:12-13 (KJV)
Jesus is the flawless fulfillment of the Passover. He is the Lamb of God that will take away the sins of the world. His sacrifice supremely set us free from the slavery and judgment of sin.
“For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us.” 1 Corinthians 5:7c (KJV)
“The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” John 1:29 (KV)
“But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.” Isaiah 53:5-6 (KJV)
The power of the blood of Jesus cleanses, covers, changes, and protects us. His body was the provision that was pierced, beaten, and broken for us to break us from the sentence of eternal death.
In closing, I ask you to be resolute in remembering the following as it relates to the blood of Jesus: The blood of Jesus will never, ever lose its power, 365 days, every minute, and every hour!
Closing Question:
Are your garments spotless?
Are they white as snow?
Are you washed in the blood of the lamb?
For the Glory of God,
