A Sanctified and Spirit Led Separation

A Sanctified and Spirit Led Separation

Depart from me, ye evildoers: for I will keep the commandments of my God. Psalms 119:115

Question. Have you been told to be careful of the company that you keep? In my day as a young man, the company that you keep was referred to as your homeboys, posse, crew, buddies, and dudes just to name a few.

As it relates to the crowd, I was running with a significant influencer in my life who shared these shrewd nuggets to negate and set me free from naivete.

Birds of a feather flock together and show me your crowd and I will be able to tell you what you are, and finally, if you run with dogs, you will get fleas.

All of us that walk with the Lord in the light of His word and wisdom have tasted and trusted His truth in our lives. Consequently, we were taught to turn from individuals tied to trouble.

Our opening text captures the heart of the psalmist's conviction and commitment to separate from evil company that poses a great threat to his worship of God and his walk with God and his will to wrap himself in the obedience of God’s word.

Let us submit and see what the word of God has said about the subject of settling and seating with bad company or evil doers.

Job 8:20 Behold, God will not cast away a perfect man, neither will he help the evil doers:  In this passage we can park and possess a promise. God will never cast or throw you out because our perfection is in Jesus the perfect GOD, man and Savior.

Psalm 26:5 I have hated the congregation of evil doers; and will not sit with the wicked.  And in this passage the psalmist points us to his practice of what I refer to as a sanctified and spirit led separation. He detested developing, devoting, and delivering time resources for a relationship with those who rejected God’s rightful rule in their lives.

Now for the purpose to promote application, I submit to you a definition of an evil doer.

Evil doers mean to be bad, be evil, to be displeasing, to be sad, to be injurious, be evil. It also means to be wicked, be evil (ethically) to do an injury or hurt, to do evil or wickedly mischief.

It is important to note that the individuals that we invest a lot of time with and those who reciprocate the same investment who will certainly affect us in life.

The psalmist prudently protested the company of evil doers in our text. (Psalm 119:115) Because again it would prove to be lethal to his loyalty and love for the Lord and his word.

Join me next time as we examine how essential it is to exercise the spiritual skill set of discernment which is crucial to not be captured by the wrong crowd.
