A PETITION FOR THE PROPER RELATIONAL POSITION (WITH GOD) 2

Deal with thy servant according unto thy mercy and teach me thy statutes. Psalm 119:124

From my last blog entry, we understood that God gave us the gift of relationship as well as the realization that we need a relationship with him. Not only did our Creator God give us the universe, the terrestrial and its inhabitants (all creatures great and small and mankind), He also created the reality of a relationship with him. Consequently, we can embrace the conviction and conclude that God should guide and establish the relationship for his purposes and pleasure.

Revelation 4:11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

Therefore, I submit to you that the psalmist in Psalm 119:124 petitions for a Proper Relational Position with God.  Permit me to share some thoughts that are conveyed from the psalmist taken from our opening text.

*The Psalmist petitions God’s parameters for relationship.  He also gives us the impression that he enjoys a relationship and reports his need of mercy and truth.

*The Psalmist indicates that in his relationship with God. God is the teacher, and he is the pupil. In addition, he also reveals a desire to submit and be led by God. Once more, the psalmist purposes to pursue and position himself in a proper relationship with God. This is consistent with the word of God.

Job 6:23 Teach me, and I will hold my tongue: and cause me to understand wherein I have erred.

Psalms 25:4 Shew me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths.

Psalm 119:25 I am thy servant; give me understanding, that I may know thy testimonies.

*The psalmist gives us his Identity. He is a servant of God and God does not serve him. Our service is indicative to the God we serve. It is also critical to note that one’s service to God reveals their intimacy with God.

Job 36:11 If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures

Matthew 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

The evidence of a vitalized Faith is a faith that forwards the personal application of scripture.  Joshua 1:8; James 1:22-25 and Colossians 3:16.

In closing, like the psalmist we should ask God for a real and rich relationship that reflects his marvelous light and mercy, magnify His teaching and truth, and thereby make us minister in his grace and might.

Not a sermon just some thoughts
