A Biblical Purest Position on Pride
A BIBLICAL PUREST POSITION ON PRIDE
The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate. Proverbs 8:13
The subject of this week’s blog consideration calls our attention to anchor ourselves in a biblical purest position. Specifically with confronting the deep-seated idol in our heart named pride. Before we begin, permit me to define a Biblical purest position.
A biblically pure position will never partner with “Pop “psychology. Nor will it integrate with secular and self-centered systems of theoretical offerings of unbelievers.
Scripture reminds us why we should repeal the reach of the counsel of the ungodly.
Psalm 1:1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
In counseling, a biblical purest anchors themselves in an absolute authority of God’s word and is resolute to turn and trust the scriptures as its perfect and primary source of wisdom and guidance.
Those who have fixed their faith and follow the Lord Jesus Christ should not seek the counsel of the ungodly, but be resolute in their application of biblical truth in his or her life. By faith, and not feelings, the believer elevates and embraces God the Father as his instructor and counselor for direction.
Psalm 32:8 I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.
Proverbs 8:14 Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength.
Now when it comes to Pride it's beneficial to our mental absorption and application that a distinction must be drawn to determine what expression of pride is acceptable to God and what is not.
There is differentiation between the kind of pride that God despises which is reflected in our opening text. (Proverbs 8:13) and the kind of pride we can experience regarding a job or task that is done in excellence.
Galatians 6:4 But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.
Or the kind of pride we express over the accomplishment of souls who are significant to us.
2 Corinthians 7:4a Great is my boldness of speech toward you, great is my glorying of you.
However, the kind of pride that shoots from self-righteousness or self-love(pride) is sin, and God hates it because it is an obstruction observing His commandments and seeking Him.
According to Scripture, pride is sinful and displeasing to God because it represents self-idolatry and self-sufficiency apart from God. Pride manifests as an excessive preoccupation with self, a disposition to exalt ourselves, (self-deification) a concerted concealment of our defects, and a personal promotion and projection being more than we are.
I leave you with two positions as prevention from the poison and pollution and insidious idolatry and intoxication of pride.
