Petitioning the Proper Parameters for a Relationship with the Lord, Part 2

Deal with thy servant according unto thy mercy, and teach me thy statutes. — Psalm 119:124

As I conveyed during our last time together, in our relationship with the Lord, He will — and must — always take the lead, because He is Lord of our lives.

“But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.”
— 1 Corinthians 8:6

I propose to you that, according to our opening passage, the psalmist reveals that he is presenting a personal petition rooted in his experience with the Lord. Immediately, we see that from his relationship with the Lord, he rightly identifies himself as a servant of the Lord — which stands in stark contrast to what many ministries today promote.

Instead of elevating the Lord as God alone and the Lord of their lives, these ministries elevate individuals to the status of masters — or even little gods — and present a relationship with the Lord that subjects Him to servitude, all in service to their iniquity-filled indulgences.

Please afford me the liberty to labor and elaborate. The following is a pertinent example of a pervasive doctrine that is not only devilish but is disastrously deceiving the Body. Consequently, it develops a demonic dynamic that deludes individuals about their relationship with the Lord.

Take, for instance, the Word of Faith movement (W.O.F). Through satanic and seductive steps — and the treacherous twisting of Scripture — their teachings have trapped adherents into anchoring themselves in a theology known as the force of faith.

According to their doctrine, words can be employed to maneuver this so-called faith-force, allowing one to “create” what they believe Scripture promises — specifically power, popularity, health, and wealth. Furthermore, the “laws” allegedly governing this faith-force are said to function independently of God’s sovereign will and purposes. This doctrine even promotes the idea that our great God Himself is subject to these laws.

This contemptible, corruptible, and carnal construct of Christianity must be called out for what it is: self-deification — which is idolatry. It’s also an attitude of arrogant ascendancy, one clearly attached to our adversary, the devil.

“How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.”
— Isaiah 14:12–14

Now consider what our Creator and Father emphatically declares about Himself:

“To whom will ye liken me, and make me equal, and compare me, that we may be like?” — Isaiah 46:5

“Remember this, and shew yourselves men: bring it again to mind, O ye transgressors. Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure.” — Isaiah 46:8–10

How deluded and demonic it is to deduce that pieces of clay can command, create, and be coequal with the Potter!

Come back next week as we continue to process together Petitioning the Proper Parameters for a Relationship with the Lord.

Not a sermon, just some thoughts.
