A RIGHT POSITION ON OUR RIGHTEOUSSNESS

Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and thy law is the truth. Psalm 119:142

On first look our text this week leads us to some initial observations: First we should identify
the righteousness. (It’s God’s righteousness.) Second, we need to direct our attention toward
the assessment and description of God’s righteousness. (It is eternal) Finally, righteousness that
is (God’s) righteousness is inseparable and consistent with the scriptures.

One of the bountiful benefits of salvation is that you get gifted with the righteousness of God.
That sounds SUPREMELY significant. However, it beckons the question do we really understand
what righteousness means and more specifically the righteousness of God?

Webster 1828 Dictionary defines Righteousness as Purity of heart and rectitude
(Morality/decency) of life; conformity of heart and life to the divine law. righteousness as used
in Scripture and theology, in which it is chiefly used, is nearly equivalent to holiness,
comprehending holy principles and affections of heart, and conformity of life to the divine law.
It includes all we call justice, honesty and virtue, with holy affections; in short, it is true religion.

In 2 Corinthians 5:21 we read, For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we
might be made
the righteousness of God in him.

In the passage in 2 Corinthians 5:21, the word righteousness means that we are in agreement
with God, and he deems us right in his eyes. Let’s frame this in faith verses feelings.: When God
sees you, he approves of you because you are a bearer of his righteousness. You are FOREVER
justified in his sight.

When you sync this scriptural truth to your soul, You will discover a deep delight and a reason
to rejoice because God sees you and approves of you. The Almighty approves and
acknowledges me and you always because he sees not our acts of righteousness but Jesus’s
awesome and ascending act on the cross.

In addition, Christ transferred HIS /Gods righteousness to us and in exchanged he took on our
treasonous thoughts, and evil exercises and internal idolatry, as well as our religious
rationalization of rebellion.
.
Now does this give us a license to live lawlessly or surf on a willful wave of sin?

ABSOLUTELY NOT. And anyone who interprets God’s grace or declaration of righteousness as a
license to sin has no personal or saving knowledge of grace. When a soul is gripped by greasy
grace, they will slide in a seditious slavery of sin. Consequently, it is plausible that they
personally don’t know the Lord at all.

While sin may not affect what God has declared about the righteousness that was bestowed, it
does affect your ability to have close communion and connection with God. Subsequently,
when you commit an act of sin you should repent quickly because it keeps the fellowship open
between you and God.

Furthermore, sin does have penalties. Romans 6:23a However, with the help of the Holy Spirit
we can avoid sin.

In closing we should not be polluted by people positions on what is righteous or unrighteous
regarding our relationship with God and man. Let’s close with what the scripture says about
man’s righteousness.

Proverbs 12:15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel
is wise.
Proverbs 21:2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.

We are always right in HIS EYES with His righteousness.

Not a sermon just some thoughts.
