Personally, Possessing a Profound Fear of the Lord
Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; 2 Corinthians 5:11a
For this week's blog entry, I was encouraged to seriously entertain the Christian concept and conviction of the fear of the Lord. I submit to you that if we are faithful to fix our hearts and minds in the fear of the Lord in this New year the Lord's Wisdom, Power, Love, Truth, Mercy, and Authority will be manifested in our lives and subsequently he will be Glorified.
The word of God (Bible) speaks about two special sorts of fear. The first sort is advantageous and should be promoted among those who possess a personal saving knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. The second sort is iniquitous and injurious and should be defied and defeated.
The first sort of fear is fear of the Lord. This sort of fear does not denote being afraid of something. Instead, it is a reverential awe of God, a reverence for His power and glory.
Christian Artist and spirit filled composer Rich Mullen completely captures the truth that Our God Is an AWESOME GOD and we should reserve our reverence exclusively to him. Let’s lock in on the lyrics of brother Mullen’s masterful song of ministry.
Our God Is An Awesome God
He Reigns From Heaven Above
With Wisdom Power And Love
Our God Is An Awesome God
When He Rolls Up His Sleeves
He Ain’t Just Putting On The Ritz
Our God Is An Awesome God
There Is Thunder In His Footsteps
And Lightning In His Fists
Our God Is An Awesome God
And The Lord Wasn’t Joking
When He Kicked Them Out Of Eden
It Wasn’t For No Reason
That He Shed His Blood
His Return Is Very Close
And So You Would Better Be Believing
That Our God Is An Awesome God
When The Sky Was Starless
In The Void Of The Night
Our God Is An Awesome God
He Spoke Into The Darkness
And Created The Light
Our God Is An Awesome God
Judgment And Wrath
He Poured Out On Sodom
Mercy And Grace
He Gave Us At The Cross
I Hope That We Have Not
Too Quickly Forgotten
That Our God Is An Awesome God
Consequently, we should have a proper respect for His wrath and anger. In other words, the fear of the Lord is an absolute acknowledgement of all that God is, which comes through knowing Him and His attributes.
Join me next time as we explore this essential exercise of engaging with others and this world in the fear of the Lord.
Not a sermon, just some thoughts.
