Personally, Possessing a Profound Fear of the Lord 2
Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; 2 Corinthians 5:11a
In my journey of Faith, I have found that the Christian concept and conviction of the Fear of the Lord is a lifelong commitment. And with that commitment comes many blessings and benefits. The word of God declares that the fear of the Lord is the starting point at the door of wisdom.
Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
In addition, the fear of the Lord leads to life, rest, peace, and satisfaction.
Proverbs 19:23 The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.
It is also a fabulous fountain of life and it forwards sound security and some serious safety for us.
Proverbs 14:26-27 In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge. The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
However, the Fear of God is not applauded or appreciated by the world.
Rom.3:18 There is no fear of God before their eyes.
I submit to you that it is honestly problematic when we proceed to communicate to our children to love God, but not to fear Him. We even endeavor to elevate a loving and gracious docile image of God to the unsaved that perchance Christianity will be more attractive to them (SEEKER FRIENDLY FAITH SETTINGS and MAN-CENTERED).
One of the colossal critiques of our day could be that we have abandoned the fear of God. We promote Him as a “best friend forever” BFF and HOLY HOMIE who saves us and “lives in our hearts,” but we do not have to fear Him.
Although it is true that we are God’s accepted children and that we are fellow heirs, even friends, with Jesus (John 15:14-15), we are not AND WILL NEVER BE EQUALS. He has forgiven us, but we are still His creation. He is God, and we are not!
Psalm 71:19 Thy righteousness also, O God, is very high, who hast done great things: O God, who is like unto thee!
One closing thought on the fear of the Lord. The fear of God is one of the most powerful preventions for sin.
Proverbs 16:6 By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.
Too many people mentally emotionally and spiritually see God as just a benevolent and gentle grandfather. Consequently, they will treat and see their sin superficially or a slight act of spiritual slippage. Consequently, their sentimental appraisal of the ALL-MIGHTY will walk them into worship halfheartedly. They will live life on their own terms rather than God’s. BOW AND BEHOLD A BURGER KING GOD – Hold your precepts, law, sanctified living will upset us, all we ask is that you let us live and serve you, our way!
By personally processing the Judgement seat of Christ Paul positioned his head and heart in a profound and proper fear of God (2Cor.5:11)
A persistent practice of processing the fear of the Lord is not just an ounce of prevention for sin but TONS!!!
Not a sermon, just some thoughts.
