Moving from a Blessed to Busted Nation - Part Three
“And they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their redeemer.” Psalm 78:35 (KJV)
God bless America, land that I love
Stand beside her and guide her
Through the night with the light from above.
From the mountains to the prairies
To the oceans white with foam
God bless America, my home sweet home
I open this blog with the considerably lauded lyrics of Kate Smith’s “God Bless America”. As we proceed in our perusal of the opening lyrics we will see the following affirmations:
Supplication (God bless America)
Declaration (land that I love)
Petition (Stand beside her and guide her)
Administration (Through the night with the light from above)
Exaltation to God for His Creation (From the mountains to the prairies; To the oceans white with foam)
Supplication with Adoration (God bless America, my home sweet home)
The lyrics also reveal that at one point in our nation’s history:
We were aware that God is the source of our blessings and it was Him we petitioned for our provision, posterity, prosperity, and protection.
We remembered that when we prayed to God we displayed and gave evidence that we loved our land or nation.
We remembered in prayer to ask God to stay close to us and counsel us in all our decisions and the executions of our plans.
We practiced gratitude and recognized that His purposes superseded our purposes.
We promoted his majesty and proclaimed his wonderful works.
These positions are consistent with the call of Scripture:
“Give thanks unto the LORD, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people. Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him, talk ye of all his wondrous works. Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD. Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually. Remember his marvellous works that he hath done, his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth. 1 Chronicles 16:8-12 (KJV)
“For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In his hand are the deep places of the earth: the strength of the hills is his also. The sea is his, and he made it: and his hands formed the dry land.” Psalms 95:3-5 (KJV)
Finally, the lyrics reveal that we remembered during the inevitable night seasons in our lives (that is the depressing, disturbing, defeated, and dense seasons), God will give us light in order that we may see the way.
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Psalm 119:105 (KJV)
“For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life.” Proverbs 6:23 (KJV)
When we are faithful to remember that God made the family according to His will and Word, gave us government according to His statutes and centered the church on Christ the rock…
When we are faithful in remembering that God is the source and founder of faith, freedom, peace, respect, love, justice, equity, righteousness, and holiness…
When we remember to exalt and embrace God as the absolute Authority and His Word as unparalleled and transcendently truthful…
Our nation will be bound to blessings.
But unfortunately, we have transitioned from a blessed nation to a busted and cursed nation because we have forsaken these biblical precepts. Pray that our new President and his administration will repent, and federal, state and local officials will repent, that our pastors and spiritual leaders will repent, and that our nation at large will repent from being faithful in forgetting God!
For the Glory of God,
