Connecting With Christ-Centered Company

“Let those that fear thee turn unto me, and those that have known thy testimonies.” Psalms 119:79 (KJV)

We know from Scripture that God has created us for relationship.

“And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.” Genesis 2:18 (KJV)

Each one of us will experience life events that cause us to have an earnest heart that yearns for someone to share both our mountaintop and valley experiences. None of us are exempt from a tempest of trials or pools of problems.

“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 (KJV)

In our text, the psalmist points us to a time in his life when he desired connection with like-minded believers. I submit to you that his request was outlined with restrictions. He wanted company with individuals who revered God and demonstrated faithful to His words. The Bible tells us that there are always blessings in store for those who fear the Lord and for those who keep company with God-fearing people.

“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!” Psalms 133:1 (KJV)

In the Word of God, we discover that those who obeyed God by “fearing” Him, walking in His ways, and finding delight in His commands, were declared “blessed.”

“Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.” Psalm 112:1 (KJV)

“He will bless them that fear the LORD, both small and great.” Psalm 115:13 (KJV)

“Blessed is everyone that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways.” Psalm 128:1 (KJV)

It is extremely encouraging to also note that these blessings are current and endure forever for those who cultivate reverence for God and conduct themselves in the “fear of the Lord.” Conversely, those who are fixed in their faithlessness, follow their own dictates, despise the Lord, and reject His Word will not walk into blessings but will mark their lives with misery and misfortune that engulfs both themselves and others. However, the most devastating consequence is to be forever separated from God.

“He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” Revelation 21:7-8 (KJV)

Therefore, one can understand why the psalmist purposed to keep company with those who feared God and followed His Word. I would invite you to join me next time as we further explore an essential element in the life of believer: Connecting with Christ Centered Company.
