A Spiritual and Special Seniors Moment
A SPIRITUAL AND SPECIAL SENIORS MOMENT
While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain: In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look out of the windows be darkened, Ecclesiastes 12:2-3
Have you ever experienced a Senior Moment?
Having a senior moment speaks of a temporary delay in memory or mental clarity that is frequently associated with aging. What does aging look like? Allow me to put it on a shelf so you can help yourself to some enlightenment and entertainment.
You know you are aging when you have seen or experienced some considerable seasons as well as sunrises and sunsets in your life. Or when you move abruptly you begin to serenade with a chorus of snap, crackle, pop parallel to pouring milk on a bowl of Rice Krispies. And when you sit too long in one position you become a member of the frozen chosen.
Furthermore, when your mind wants you to move in seconds your body says wait a minute or two. Again, that is associated with aging. On some occasions a senior moment is humorously attributed to one's advanced age and can result in forgetting something or acting strangely or foolishly. I will now transition from comedy to Christian contemplation as we consider the subject of aging.
In Scripture, King Solomon presented the phrase "evil days" to express the aging process in a poetic presentation coupled with theoretical temperament.
He advises readers in Ecclesiastes 12:1 “Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;”
He personifies aging as "evil" not in the ethical sense, but more in the sense of it being many times terribly tough and tricky to travel through. As you can perceive from our opening text In the passages that follow, King Solomon describes the more than a few physical and mental degenerations that come with old age. The shortfall of strength, deteriorating vision, hearing, and other faculties which can be perceived as painful and onerous.
The Preacher (Solomon) points us to a tender and yet telling notice of life's transient nature and the magnitude of living copiously and significantly in the present. And it is Christ our Lord that gives us and makes our lives significant.
Titus 3:4-7 But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; that being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
