Deliberately Delighting in the Word of God Part 2

But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditates day and night. Psalm
1:2
From our last time together, I shared that godly people (individuals who are born of the spirit aka born-again Jn.3:3) get direction from the whole counsel of God’s Word. The whole counsel of God is the absolute truth of the word of God specifically the gospel. Consequently, as sons and daughters of God our relationship with the Word of God should be likened to being in love. People that are in love with each other take tremendous joy in spending time together. In addition, priorities are policed and purged because at the pinnacle of one’s head and heart are the one that they desire and delight in. I respectfully and lovingly say to you that we need to be purposeful in pursuing that splendid sample of love as it relates to the word of God.

Now let’s give some consideration to the actions that accentuate and advertise to others that we delight in the word of God.

WE DELIGHT IN THE WORD OF GOD by meditating on God’s Word religiously day and night  (Psalm 1:2; Joshua 1:8). We access and apply its advice often, thus it becomes a brilliant biblical light in a blinding dark world. (Psalm 119:105). We delight in God’s Word because we know it has the power to preserve us in a world prevalent with pain and problems (Psalm 119:92).

WE DELIGHT IN THE WORD OF GOD by honoring and treasuring God’s Word (Psalm 119:47–48, 159) because it is a matchless prize more precious than gold” (Psalm 19:10). It is the joy of our hearts” (Psalm 119:111); and delivers and gives life to the lost. (Psalm 119:25, 93; 1 Peter 1:23), (Matthew 4:4), (Psalm 119:66, 98–100). It is also a miraculous and magnificent life manager.

WE DELIGHT IN THE WORD OF GOD by making His word a day-to-day portion of our lives; and by receiving its “truth with a great willingness” (Acts 17:11); furthermore when we are resolute in the reading and reflection of God’s word. (2 Timothy 3:16); We also study and search “the Scriptures daily (Acts 17:11).

LOVE IS AT THE CORE OF DELIGHTING IN THE WORD OF GOD. When we love the word of God with a true heart that is touched and treated by the Spirit of God, HIS WORD will becomes what we are most passionate about in life: Listen and lock on the psalmist as he proclaims his delight and love for God’s word: O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day. Psalm 119:97

Brothers and sisters, God wants to wrestle us from the world and our wills and pin our will for the purpose of taking our whole hearts with His Word (Deuteronomy 30:6; Psalm 119:10; James 4:8). The depiction is one of mutual delight and pleasure in our relationship with the Lord. God finds pleasures over His people by blessing them with spiritual wealth “like a tree planted by brooks of blessed water, which will bring forth fruit and whose leaf does not wane (Psalm 1:3).

Finally, we delight in God by loving Him with all our hearts and doing what He says in His Word.

Not a sermon just some thoughts.

For the Glory of God,
